Society & Genomics

CSG's research projects

The Centre for Society and Genomics (CSG) conducts social, ethical and philosophical research about or inspired by genomics. Inside CSG, which is part of the Radboud University Nijmegen, ten PhD researchers and postdocs conduct research in areas such as nutrigenomics, bioinformatics, dialogues concerning genomics, toxicogenomics and genomics & fiction. Moreover the CSG finances research projects which are carried out at universities elsewhere in the Netherlands.

In 2004, the CSG acquired a subsidy from the Netherlands Genomics Initiative, which is associated to NWO, for the implementation of 20 research projects. Meanwhile these projects have been completed or are in the final stages. For the period 2008 – 2012, CSG has again obtained a grant. With that, over 40 additional research projects are financed. The majority of this have either commenced in 2008, are about to start in the first half of 2009.

Many of CSG’s research projects are conducted in close cooperation with other genomics centres. Thus, these projects are closely connected with genomics research. In this way, genomics benefits from the insights and findings of CSG projects. In addition to genomics researchers, other stakeholders are involved in the set-up and implementation of the projects.

A programme committee consisting of three Executive Board members and six principal investigators develops and monitors CSG’s projects. The principal investigators are senior researchers, based at universities outside Nijmegen.
